Websites for small businesses in Newburyport, MA
Newburyport is in northern Massachusetts, about 12 miles from our office in Stratham. We build websites, online booking and small software tools for local businesses, and these are the numbers that made us look closer at Newburyport.
What we found in Newburyport
We looked up 108 local businesses in Newburyport on Google Maps in October 2026, including salons (14), real estate offices (13) and gyms (11).
32 of the working sites belonged to appointment businesses (salons, gyms and yoga studios). 7 of them had no way to book online, so every appointment means a phone call during business hours.
14 had no website on their Google listing at all, and 1 more only linked to a Facebook or Instagram page. Someone searching on a phone gets a phone number and not much else. That is less than the 23% we saw across all 34 towns we checked.
4 of the 53 working sites weren't set up for phones, so the text shows up tiny and people pinch to zoom.
We opened 56 of the websites listed on Google. 3 went nowhere: the page didn't load or showed an error, including 2 that landed on a parked domain or an expired-site page. Anyone who taps one of those links gets nothing.
Nail salons were the group most often missing a real website: 2 of the 6 we looked up had none, or only a social page.
How we counted: businesses we found on Google Maps in October 2026 while looking for salons, barbers, auto shops, trades, gyms, groomers and similar local businesses. Chains and medical offices are left out. A "dead" link means the website on the Google listing didn't load, showed an error or showed a parked page when we opened it. We don't name anyone, and the numbers are a snapshot.
